Takeda Style Kao

kao reflects personal character and era. Takeda style kao is a technique from the civil war era and the single stroke features cannot be imitated.

 

 

Kao is filled with wishes for health, prosperity for descendants and respect for their ancestors. The design ideas have been adopted from The Book of Mundane Mutations.

 

The Takeda style kao’s origination began when Takeda Shingen gave orders to his vassal Koike Izuminokami Tanesada to manage handwritten seal marks and has been handed down to the Koike family generation after generation.

 

 

Kenshi Shimizu inherited the Takeda style kao from the 15th generation memory keeper and former modern literature researcher, Koike Fujigoro , and is currently the 16th generation Takeda style kao memory keeper. 

 

The Takeda style kao was handed down from the father to only one of his sons and is the only one form that has been established and protected to this very day. 

 The Importance of Takeda style’s kao


.From the end of the Muromachi period to the beginning of the Edo period Kao was veiwed extremely important. In this era, like the current hanko stamps to this day, not only the owner of the kao but also the family’s life living area and property were affected by kao.

 

 

It was important to not be imitated by others. In order to guarantee this safety, Shingen Takeda ordered a kao station.

 

Takeda style kao ideas come from The Book of Changes, as Buddha and ancestors are considerably important and based on taking care of parents and ancestors, especially, the line that cultivates the soul which values are about cherishing the body received by one’s parents, the line that emphasizes promises with one’s self and others, income, family’s line and stability are the ideas adopted in the kao itself. Furthermore, Takeda Shingen style kao is made with care so that the owner’s wishes will make progress.

Takeda style kao first determines the character second, examines the meaning of the character, and then selecting a font.

According to the Takeda stlye kao’s book of secrets, finally, the 16th generation head of Takeda style kao, Mr. Kenseki Shimizu will prepare your kao with all respect. 

 

In leach line such as the enshrinement platform, the faith line, family line, income line,life line and the secret lines all are written respectfully with one stroke at a time.

Each of these line are adopted wisdom from The Book of Changes such as the five elements,(fire,water,wood,metal and earth) the principles of thought and mathematics. The handwriting from the head of house Kao is harmonized with one stroke one by one not neglecting the slightest details , each stroke overflowing with energy is simply a tone of art. 

 

The eight life-long lines to enhance good luck

1. The line to conquer evil -  To chase the evil away

2. One of the six administrators of the Zen temple platform- A place where respect is   shown for ancestors and Buddha. 

3. Life line- Life-span inherited from parents and to keep healthy.

4. Line of Territory-  Trust received from others

5. The line of belief-  Luck with property

6.The line of common sense- The way a person is should be as a person

7. The line of family- Increases luck for family members, relatives, friends, acquaintances, people that are meant to be in your life.

8.The mother line- The line of earth will help stable your life

 Medo line- Indicated the ideas from The Book of Changes(using numbers for good luck.)
