The Takeda style kao’s origination began when Takeda Shingen gave orders to his vassal Koike Izuminokami Tanesada to manage handwritten seal marks and has been handed down to the Koike family generation after generation.
Kenshi Shimizu inherited the Takeda style kao from the 15th generation memory keeper and former modern literature researcher, Koike Fujigoro , and is currently the 16th generation Takeda style kao memory keeper.
The Takeda style kao was handed down from the father to only one of his sons and is the only one form that has been established and protected to this very day.
.From the end of the Muromachi period to the beginning of the Edo period Kao was veiwed extremely important. In this era, like the current hanko stamps to this day, not only the owner of the kao but also the family’s life living area and property were affected by kao.
